Friends of St Mary’s
Friends of St Mary’s Prometheus Benign weather, a well-heated church and the well-regarded Prometheus Orchestra helped to attract an audience of more than 120 to St Mary’s in October for a programme of Holst and Mozart. Hosted by the Friends of St Mary’s, the concert featured another highly professional performance from Prometheus, with conductor Edmund Fivet and his musicians giving their time and virtuoso talent in support of the Friends of St Mary’s and the church building. The concert raised around £800, bringing the total raised by the Friends to over £16,000 since their formation in February 2012. The Friends now has over 80 members and was able to present the St Mary’s PCC with a cheque for £12,500 at the start of the year – enough to pay for the refurbishment of one of the church’s stained glass windows as well as contribute to other repairs to the building. Further fund-raising concerts planned by the Friends include a Woodbridge Prom in church for the second successive year on Sunday 17 November at 3.00 pm, and a return concert by Prometheus on Saturday 8 March at 7.30 pm. Caring for our church How do you preserve a 500 year old church building so that it can continue to be a vivid window into the past, as well as a vibrant and frequently used part of community life today? You can find out by coming to the next Woodbridge Museum Afternoon Talk on Friday 15 November, when the Rector, Kevan McCormack, will speak about the challenges faced in caring for St Mary’s, inside and out.
