Music at St Mary’s Music at St Mary’s continues to thrive! Between March and June, we have a lively variety of concerts, so why not come and enjoy the quite exceptional acoustic qualities of our beautiful building? It is not only classical music; there are at least two items that venture beyond that. On 8 March, the Prometheus Orchestra gave another stunning performance, playing Boyce, Mozart and Bizet. On 29 March, Chris Rowbury brings the wonderful OK Chorale to sing a varied, international programme in aid of WaterAid (see p.4). Not only do they sing unaccompanied, but by heart and in harmony – those who heard them last year can testify to their excellence. In the approach to Easter, the Woodbridge Choral Society perform Bach’s Easter Oratorio and parts of the Mozart Vespers (5 April). Sue Heath-Downey (organ and piano) and Victoria Walpole (BBC Concert Orchestra’s principal cor anglais) are presenting The Wonderful World of Baroque ... and more (3 May); their long- standing Woodbridge connections make them doubly welcome. In sharp contrast, we are to experience ‘a joyous musical hotpot’ in the form of Chanters Jigge, whose musicians will play a variety of instruments, sing and invite the audience to join in (10 May). May also features three performances by the outstanding Woodbridge Chamber Concerts, organised by John Treadway (see www.woodbridgechamberconcerts.org). These include: the Royal College of Music Strings, conducted by Malcolm Messenger (17 May); a trio led by violinist Min Jin-Kym (24 May), who was recently in the news when her Stradivarius was recovered following its theft from a coffee shop at Euston Station; and the Hieronymus Quartet (31 May). The charity concert by the Voigt Ensemble on 21 June is in aid of Macmillan Nurses; and on 28 June we welcome back the Kingfisher Sinfonietta. If you would like to know more, why not visit the websites of the groups and musicians mentioned here.
