The Seckford Chapel
Have you ever been inside the beautiful little Seckford Chapel? You may not know that regular times of worship are held there for anyone in the Almshouses who might care to come, or just be unable to get to services in the parish church. While the primary concern of the Seckford Almshouses is the care and support of all its people, these services are also open to outsiders who might like to attend – perhaps those who feel better able to cope with a shorter service than in church on a Sunday. Access is via the main entrance. The services are led by clergy or elders from St Mary’s, of which the chapel is a part, with lessons read by residents. We experimented with a Songs of Praise session one Sunday afternoon this summer, when residents could choose their favourite hymns to sing. It was such a success that we plan to hold another. We have a keyboard in the chapel, but rarely anyone to play it; if you could spare an hour once or twice a month to play for our hymns, you would be welcomed with open arms! But most of all, we would dearly love more people to come along to these lovely quiet services – everyone is welcome.
