I am delighted to have been asked to write a piece on Roy Tricker’s award of a British Empire Medal for Services to Heritage. Roy was a great friend to St Mary’s Focus Group when it was running. He was our ‘Chaplain’ after Pat Ashton died and year after year took us on wonderful Church Crawls, exploring so many different churches. We learnt a great deal with his amazing knowledge and his great excitement over our wonderful heritage. I am pleased to say we have started the Church Crawls again. Last year about 20 of us had a stimulating day with him studying Huntingfield Church, and this year we are going to Beccles St Michael’s at his suggestion on Friday 22 June. He always makes these outings such fun and to see him lying on the floor encouraging us to study the roof is quite something! He also wrote St Mary’s Guide Book, has given a talk to the Friends of St Mary’s and to the Museum, and spoke at Peggy Cole’s memorial service at St Mary’s.. He is a good and loyal friend to so many of us and to many, many people in lots of parishes literally all over the country. He is a mine of information and has written many church guide books. You mention any church in the UK and he will know something about it! Roy is always a joy to be with and we are really thrilled he has this greatly deserved honour. Congratulations, Roy, and we send the love of so many of us! Anna Ashton St Mary’s Mothers’ Union This year started off with our AGM, when we said ‘Thank you – and now have a rest!’ to our retiring branch leader, Margaret Lowe, who has held that office for twelve years (pictured, left, with Pauline Bowbrick and Anne Stent). We are looking forward to: 12 April: Lady Day Service at St Andrew’s, Rushmere 10 May: Corporate Communion in church, followed by a talk by Stephen Caley, Chaplain, Hollesley Bay Prison 7 June: Cream Tea 3.00 pm Church Centre To find out more, please pick up a leaflet in church or contact Jean (01473 621558) or Rachel (01394 766907).
