A ringing endorsement
At the time of writing the Friends have presented our Rector with a large cheque, served refreshments at Chris Rowbury’s ‘Around the World in Song’ Concert and have three more events lined up – and we are still in March! As ever, we want to see more people in a church that is well maintained and reaching out as far as it can to the local community. If you’re not a regular worshipper why not come and see for yourself? This year is arguably our biggest milestone, having been able to hand over a cheque for £40,000 to the Church Fabric Fund. The money will pay for the much-needed refurbishment of our melodious church bells. The work is due to begin in the autumn and will be carried out by the only firm doing this type of work in the country. This has left the Friends’ bank balance somewhat diminished, but we have one fund- raising event under our belt and three pending. A Friends’ bar at another delightful Chris Rowbury concert took £158, while the concert itself raised funds for WaterAid. Also coming up at St Mary’s in support of the Friends and the church building:  Sunday 19 May, 3.00 pm – a ‘Bach to Bernstein’ flute recital featuring flautist Romy Hills, with Andrew Greaves (piano). Retiring collection for the Friends.  Friday 24 May, 5.00 pm – ‘A Programme of Evocative Words and Music’, featuring congregation member Andy McCullough (clarinet) and his actor sister Rohan McCullough (narrator). Tickets £10 from the Church Shop or Woodbridge Violins, including a glass of fizz. Raffle, with exciting prizes.  Saturday 20 July, 7.30 pm – ‘Showstopper Musical Favourites’ another exciting concert from the Riverside 100 Choir. Look out for ticket details. As ever, we welcome ideas for more events and we welcome new Friends. Drop me an email on either count: nick@nickcottam.com. Nick Cottam
