FEAST OF ST PETER AND ST PAUL

“ And so I tell you Peter: you are a rock, and on this rock foundation I will build my church…..”

This Sunday, our church family is remembering two special saints. St Peter and St Paul were both very close followers of Jesus.

St Peter was a fisherman, and he left his boat and fishing nets behind, to follow Jesus. He loved Jesus very much and was always with him.

St Paul lived after the time of Jesus, and he helped the soldiers of the Roman Army… he did not like the Christians and helped to capture and kill them! But something made him change his mind!

Peter left everything to follow Jesus, and Jesus chose him to be something special. He told Peter that he was going to be the leader of God’s church on earth; Peter would be like a strong rock for God’s people. The sign for St Peter is the keys, (like someone who is in charge, has keys)…..Jesus told him “ I will give you the keys to the Kingdom of Heaven.”

Saul lived after the time of Jesus. He did not like the Christian people and he joined the Roman army to help capture them. One day, God spoke to him, and asked him WHY? From that day, Saul changed his name to Paul and became a follower of Jesus. He travelled to many places to tell everyone about Jesus and he also wrote many, many letters to people, telling them how to follow Jesus. The sign for St Paul is the sword.

Peter and Paul both died for the church. They are very important people for us and the church today. Because of them, we learn a lot about Jesus and God’s Kingdom on earth and in Heaven.

Perhaps you know somebody who is called Peter or Paul…. tell them how special their name is.

Don’t forget your crayons on Sunday

WE LOOK FORWARD TO SEEING YOU
