The choir of St Mary’s Church, Woodbridge helps to lead the worship at St Mary’s, principally at the weekly parish Eucharist, at weddings and funerals and occasional Evensongs, most of which take place in the beautiful setting of St Mary’s Church; from time to time the choir sings at St Mary’s, Great Bealings, and at events elsewhere in Woodbridge.

The choir’s repertoire ranges from simple plainsong to more complex polyphony, from pieces written many centuries ago to the present day, and contributes a varied selection of music to enrich the liturgy.

The choir meets weekly during term time to rehearse, 6.30pm – 8 pm on Thursdays, beginning in St Mary’s House, and at 9.15am on Sundays for the Parish Eucharist at 10am (except on the first Sunday of each month when the rehearsal and service begin one hour later 10.15am/11am).

The choir includes members of differing musical experience and musical training is provided in our rehearsals which are productive and good fun; singers of all levels of experience are welcome to try out a rehearsal – contact the director of music to arrange a date to attend.

The choir aims to be a place of welcome and inclusivity where its singers can meet in a sympathetic, encouraging and safe environment to make music; our music staff receive enhanced DBS checks and undergo diocesan Safeguarding training; adult members of the choir are required to undertake basic Safeguarding awareness training.

Our musicians James Davy and Sarah Dodds are always pleased to hear from prospective new members – please email directorofmusic@stmaryswoodbridge.org for more information. Music and robes are provided; all you need to bring is enthusiasm, commitment, and a love of singing in good company.
